Cooper's Landing
Cooper's Landing is located on the remnants of a Spanish land grant given to Ira P. Nash who developed a wharf for riverboats shipping supplies and merchandise up and down the Missouri River. Nash began selling lots and prospered as the city of Nashville began its development in 1819. The city was flooded and virtually wiped out in 1844. Businesses moved upstream to what became Providence as the river banks eroded to today's margins. The Landing offers a unique experience for campers, cyclists touring the Katy Trail, and provides ample space for RVs, and good food in the kitchens. There's always something in the smoker, and curiously it's the best place in the Columbia area for Thai food. There's music Wednesday through Sunday. Guitars, fiddles, banjos, and harmonicas dominate as local musicians play their own renditions in genres like bluegrass, country, folk classics, and river ballads. The mood is definitely laid back. It's not Branson or Nashville Tennessee. It's the Landing and it has The Big Muddy in its veins and hospitality in its heart. So if you're traveling through mid-Missouri you won't be disappointed if you stop by for evening of entertainment and dinner, but to really appreciate the Landing you'll need a couple of days among the River Rats who congregate here, preserving a tradition of welcoming the wayfarer and maintaining a culture that has been all but forgotten. Camping: Tent or RV, river access, dock, store, Katy Trail, WiFi throughout the campgrounds. |

| Everyone has a favorite chair and when I'm camping out nothing beats my fold up recliner. Unfortunately, this summer the webbing began splitting and pulling away from the frame. So I dug into my gear and pulled out my favorite fix all - a silicon based adhesive called Goop. | |

Shoot the Messenger!I'll be running tips on how to keep the bad guys out, and your machine running clean. This part of the series is called Stuff You Don't Need, and I'm sure closing the door on a Trojan that uses Windows Messenger to bounce a pop up ad onto your screen would be an annoyance to you. So let's lock and load. The execution should only take a few minutes. To the Firing Line. |
